Now, the blonde bombshell has opened up about the less glamorous side of competing on the show, when she was left “crying” in pain during a humiliating costume blunder.
During Movie Week, the couple performed a Cha Cha Cha inspired by the 1985 hit movie Flashdance – but everything didn’t go quite as smoothly as it seemed. Taking to Instagram, the comic revealed why she struggled to perform to the best of her abilities on the night after receiving criticism from trolls online.
Sharing a video of her performing the routine one year later, Jayde explained: “I need to clear something up that’s irked me off for a year. During the video of me doing Flashdance on Strictly there’s a bit where it looks like I can’t get up off the floor [or] lift my leg – but I can!
“What you need to know is, I was wearing a flexible corset that was way too small for me but the costume ladies wanted the outfit to look a certain way so I wore it. I shouldn’t have worn it, I didn’t need to. Comfort over everything always.”
But things quickly went from bad to worse when she struggled to get out of the suffocating costume which had got tangled up in her underwear.
She went on: “Full disclosure: until about 40 mins before we danced – there was this elastic bit as well that went between my legs on my m**ge to hold the corset down. And I had to be cut out of it as it had started twisting, taking hold of my vulva lips and pubes. I cried. There are witnesses.
“I know, I shouldn’t have to explain myself, but a lot of the intense trolling I had was about that moment which has been very annoying for me because I know I can do them normally, I was restricted. That leg lift is my signature move, it’s why we put it in!
“Anyway, I just need you lot to know this and that’s all I have to say about that,” she concluded. It didn’t take long before her loyal legion of fans flooded to the comments section to shower her with praise for speaking out online.

One user penned: “Go on girl [praise emoji] corset and pubes ripping aside – you nailed it and continue to! [smiling emoji]”. Another echoed: “With or without the corset you smashed it [muscle emoji] love what this represents” as a third chimed in with: “Regardless you did it and smashed it!! Sod the haters and trolls. You done amazing [heart-eyes emoji].”
It comes after the TV star shared a gushing post cheering on her pro dancer one year after they took to the stage with their incredible routine. Alongside a montage of pictures and videos taken from the show that night, she looked back on her time on the series with fondness.
She wrote: “The message was: fat is chic. One year ago today, I took my feminist regime nationwide and by doing exactly what I’ve always done – wear lycra and dance – I made a whole bunch of people feel good about themselves and was named by Grazino [Di Prima] as the #Strictly moment of 2022. What a feeling.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday and Sunday on BBC One from 6.30pm.
