Fear the Walking Dead may have successfully pulled off its ambitious time jump, but one character’s absence has been notable.
Since the dam blew up last year, Daniel Salazar has not been spotted in either season four timeline.
Ruben Blades, who plays the character, is no longer credited as a series regular as well.
Co-showrunner Andrew Chambliss was asked about whether or not viewers will see Daniel – who, by the way, somehow survived being shot in the face – again, and answers are being promised.
“We have no inkling of that yet,” he told Entertainment Weekly, “but I think the thing we will say without giving away too much is that we definitely will be seeing Daniel Salazar in the Walking Dead universe.
“It’s a very big world, and we will hint at what may have happened.
“I think we get a little bit of a sense of it even from kind of Strand’s struggles, and we can tell that he’s carrying a lot of his past with him. It’s not just what he did to the Clark family when he made the deal with Proctor John at the dam, but he also shot Daniel Salazar in the face.
“So that’s part of the emotional baggage that he’s carrying with him, and we will dig into how he feels about all of that as we continue to see his life in the stadium.”
Furthermore, season four star Garret Dillahunt, who plays John Dorie, told TV Guide that Blades has not been on set so far this year.
“Ruben’s just off winning Grammys,” he said.
Season four is currently shooting its second half, so it seems we won’t be seeing Daniel for a long while yet.
Fear the Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US and on AMC on BT TV in the UK.
