GAME of Thrones fans have been left gutted after an iconic show location looks set to be ripped down.
The popular HBO programme has now ended but it hasn't stopped its loyal fan base from visiting some of the legendary locations featured throughout its many seasons.
However, many will be left heartbroken after it was revealed that a popular tourist location in Northern Ireland that featured throughout the show will be no more amid growing safety concerns.
Known as the Dark Hedges on the show, in real life the trees look set to be chopped down in the coming weeks.
Originally planted in the 1700s, the unique looking trees have become one of the country's most visited hotspots, especially after making their debut during series two of the hit show, but now they will well and truly be facing the axe.
According to Stormont’s Department of Infrastructure, work to remove and take down the trees will begin this upcoming weekend.

Revealing the "potential risk" to the public, a statement said: "An independent specialist survey found that 11 trees, out of a total of 86, are in a poor condition and could pose a potential risk to the public.
"This decision has not been made lightly and, whilst the amenity value afforded by the corridor of trees is acknowledged, the safety of road users is paramount."
Although understanding of the issues, many GoT fans were left disappointed by the outcome and shared their thoughts online.
One fan said on social media: "They should have prepared in advance for this potential problem, in order to replace with younger trees."

Another added of their memories of the site: "What a pity, such a wonderful place, I managed to visit this route before."
Before a third shared that they were in a"beautiful, beautiful location" and was left saddened to see them go.
Game of Thrones launched in 2011 and broadcast 73 episodes over eight seasons before concluding in 2019.
