Richard Madeley asks Lindsay Hoyle for mouse help

Richard Madeley’s Good Morning Britain return left viewers divided with many claiming to “switch off” the ITV programme on Monday.

As the broadcaster made a comeback to the ITV show after a short hiatus, some viewers asked why the controversial figure continues to front the show.

After not appearing on Good Morning Britain for a few weeks, Richard’s presence caught viewers’ attention, with Twitter user @Stevo96112689 sharing: “Madeley? Nope. #gmb.”

@gdianne989 added: “#gmb aw no forgot Mondays were tricky d***y Richard Madeley days.” (sic)

“Oh no. Okay who stood in front of a mirror and said “Richard Madeley” three times ?? #GMB,” @wrinklytimelord asked. (sic)

@Paul68958640 went as far as to fume: “#gmb F*** me, it’s Madeley. I’ve turned the s*** off.” (sic)

@petertsykes askeD: “@GMB why do you continue to have Richard Madeley anchor the show, conduct a poll and I’m sure you will find I am in the majority, the man is an absolute clown!!”

However, others took a different view and were pleased to see the public figure back on screens.

@ScottMoffett01 penned: “Wahoo, I have just settled down for another manic Madeley Monday morning. #GMB.”

It didn’t take long for Richard to begin his commentary on some of the day’s topics.

Commenting on the rising temperatures, he stated: “Hands up for old money, that’s about 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

Discussing Just Stop Oil’s tactics to raise awareness of the climate crisis, he also debated with Owen Jones about whether or not the activist group is being taken seriously.

As he chatted about the group’s plans to disrupt rush hour in the capital, he asked Yvette Cooper how she would feel being stuck in traffic and whether she would sympathise with the cause.

The Shadow Home Secretary slammed the group as “damaging” and “unfair,” to which Richard explained the protestors in fact plan to “step up” their actions.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
