Gogglebox fans were thrilled on Friday night as they sat down to watch the new series of the Channel 4 programme. Siblings Pete and Sophie Sandiford, best friends Lee Riley and Jenny Newby, and sisters Ellie and Izzi Warner were back on their sofas to entertain viewers as they gave commentary on the latest television programmes. However, it didn’t take poor Mary long before she was in tears after watching Emma Raducanu’s historic US Open victory.
Some of the programmes the cast watched during Friday’s instalment were Antiques Roadshow, Vigil and Ready to Mingle.
They also watched the moment Raducanu won the US Open Final in New York last weekend.
Despite her opponent Leylah Fernandez keeping her on her toes and suffering an injury during the match, viewers watched as the 18-year-old rose to victory.
The Brit won 6-4, 6-3 to win her first Grand Slam.
However, the moment got a bit too much for Mary, as she was overcome with emotion.
“Well, that’s great,” Mary’s husband Giles said as they witnessed the win.
As Mary broke down in tears, Giles turned to his wife and said: “Don’t, no! Steady Mary, steady. Steady!
“You were like that once without a care in the world,” he continued as he joked: “Until you met me.”
Viewers took to Twitter following the segment, with many commenting on Mary’s reaction.

Alec added: “’Steady Mary…steady’ – we’ve missed you.”
Elsewhere in the programme, Pete’s newborn baby made his debut on Gogglebox.
Peter announced his partner Paige Yeomans was expecting their first child back in April.
However, last week at the NTAs, Peter confirmed he was now a dad.
As he cradled his son, Pete said: “You’re being a good boy, aren’t you?”
Fans were delighted to see Pete and his baby, and many took to Twitter to congratulate the reality star.
Kendi said: “Pete and his baby lovely way to start off Gogglebox after the loss of some of the regulars #gogglebox.”
Paul commented: “Awww… bless Pete and the baby. Such a nice way to start.”
“Pete’s sweet baby. Congratulations,” Jayne added.
Gogglebox returns on Friday at 9pm on Channel 4.
