Countryfile presenter Hamza Yassin was one of the 15 contestants to take to the stage on Saturday’s opening night of Strictly Come Dancing. Although he wowed the judges and came in joint first place with Will Mellor, Hamza dodged probes about potentially winning the show.
Hamza and his professional partner Jowita Przystał made an appearance on Channel 4’s Steph’s Packed Lunch to discuss the highly anticipated week two.
After an insight into rehearsals, presenter Steph McGovern asked: “Do you think you could win it?”
To which, a taken aback Hamza answered: “We’re not thinking that far ahead.
“We’re just trying to get the Jive out the way to be perfectly honest.”

As they laughed, Jowita added: “We need to survive the Jive and then we will think later on what’s going to happen.
Hamza agreed: “Yeah, we take one week at a time, like whatever that week is going to be we’ll try to aim for it, work hard.
“If we get through wicked, high five, if we don’t, then we had an amazing time.”
Hamza left the judges wanting more after he impressed them in week one with the Foxtrot to Island in the Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers.
An amazed Anton Du Beke stated: “We’ve got ourselves a ballroom dancer in the house,” and congratulated the pair.
The usually critical Craig Revel Horwood also praised the star as he questioned: “Who knew.”
Motsi Mabuse added: “That was exquisite… brilliant, well done.”
Head judge Dame Shirley Ballas agreed: “It was so easy, every time I hear this song, I’m going to think about you.”
Hamza and Jowita scored a whopping total of 34 points and came in joint first place with Will and Nancy Xu.
Although it was announced Hamza would Jive to Blinding Lights by The Weeknd, the presenter’s appearance in week two was questioned as he sustained an injury.
After their performance, the duo appeared on Strictly’s spin-off, It Takes Two and spoke to host Janette Manara.
Before the episode came to an end, she quizzed: “Also just quickly, you’ve been patching Hamza as well in rehearsals!
“So you are working really hard because we’ve got this going on – what’s happening?!”
“Yes, every day!” Hamza added as Jowita assured: “It’s prevention.”
Hamza shared. “I’m complaining about knee pains all the time.
“My knees are always hurting all this kicking, and this is what she has to do basically to keep me from complaining about my knees.”
Despite the concerns, Hamza confirmed “it works,” and explained the bandage enable him to carry on dancing.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
