Tonight’s episode of EastEnders showed the aftermath of baby Peach’s birth, with Zack Hudson (James Farrar) and Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) struggling to come to terms with their loss.
They were torn in their approaches to begin with, with Whitney wanting to go straight home but Zack not yet ready to say goodbye.
Instead, he headed to the hospital chapel, where another dad got the wrong idea and began talking about how they may cross paths again when their daughters were older.
Struggling, Zack revealed that Peach had died, leaving the other dad stunned.
However he offered some advice, encouraging Zack to go back to Whitney and his baby.
Whitney, meanwhile, opened up to the midwife about her previous miscarriage, and listened while she shared her own story.
Once back in the hospital room, the grieving parents spent a few final precious moments with daughter Peach, where they promised to always love her.
It was then that they began to picture what life would have been like had Peach not been ill.
Whitney imagined her fifth birthday, which she thought would be football themed.
She said that Peach would be a tomboy, just like her mum, and that Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) would be wanting to dress her up and watch Frozen with her.
Zack then pictured her tenth birthday, deciding that it would be a bowling party, with the first signs of boys on the scene.
Their time together was then heartbreakingly cut short, as the midwife arrived to take baby Peach away.
Heartbroken Zack and Whitney then headed home, clutching the memory box they had been given at the hospital.
Back on the square, Zack told Whitney about what he imagined Peach’s wedding would be like . He said she’d marry someone clever, a doctor or architect, in a small wedding for close friends and family.
He said that he could see it, if he closed his eyes.
Devastated Whitney admitted that she couldn’t see anything, leaving Zack heartbroken as she walked away.
EastEnders continues Tuesday March 7 at 7:30pm on BBC One.
