There was no love lost between Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith) and his wife in House of the Dragon with the prince describing her as his “bronze b****” in the Vale and seeking pleasure in the brothels of Flea Bottom in King’s Landing.

Daemon took Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno) as his mistress and most recently set his sights on his niece Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) as they got intimate in the White Worm.

Who plays Rhea Royce?

Rhea Royce is portrayed by British actress Rachel Redford – who is also known as Rachel Ford, according to IMDb.

She is an up-and-coming star, who is possibly best known for her portrayal of Fruszi in Netflix’s fantasy drama series Shadow and Bone.

Ford has also starred in the TV series Gap Year playing Lauren, opposite Aisling Bea, Tim Key, Janeane Garofalo, and Anders Hayward.

She has also appeared in the films The Riot Club, Testament of Youth, and The Return of the Yuletide Kid.

The actress has also trodden the boards in The Jungle at the Playhouse Theatre in London, which has been directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin.

Following a successful run in London, the show transferred to San Francisco’s The Curran Theatre earlier this year.

Posting on Twitter about the play back in January, Rachel said: “Stand with my friends @GoodChanceCal in offering @sajidjavid and @ukhomeoffice the opportunity to #startaconversation by watching #TheJungle.

“To see why people seek asylum & the awful conditions that cause people to risk their lives. Put politics aside and hear the people.”

Why does Daemon Targaryen hate his wife?

Rhea was the Lady of Runestone and she married Daemon in what was deemed a strong political alliance between House Targaryen and the Vale.

Daemon found the Vale of Arryn to be wearisome and grew bored of both his land and wife.

He referred to Rhea as a ‘bronze b****’ because of the ancient armour worn by House Royce and he would often mock her.

Neither Rhea nor Daemon held love for one another and they were estranged with the prince begging his older brother Viserys (Paddy Considine) to end the union.

Although Viserys wouldn’t grant Daemon’s wishes, he did recall him to court where he served in various positions for the king.

Rhea and Daemon didn’t have any children but he did go back to Runestone before he later embarked on a journey as he fought the War for the Stepstones.

House of the Dragon saw Daemon again begging his brother to end his marriage to Rhea, so he could marry Rhaenyra after the Targaryens were spotted ‘coupling’ in the White Worm.

Viserys again refused him and told Daemon lusted for the Iron Throne rather than Rhaenyra and nothing would stop his ambition for power.

In Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, Rhea met a tragic end after she was hunting with her hawk in the Vale when she fell from her horse.

Her skull was smashed on a stone during the fall and she was later found by her people.

Rhea was taken to her bed and survived for nine days before dying, shortly after she started to feel well again.

Daemon went to the Vale after learning of Rhea’s demise and laid her to rest before taking her lands, estates and wealth from House Royce.

But Lady Jeyne Arryn challenged his claim and told Daemon never to return to the Vale with the prince leaving with his sights set on greater things.
