Holby City left our screens back in March and fans are still not over it – particularly when the old Holby set apparently popped up in EastEnders yesterday.
Ben (Max Bowden) and Kheerat (Jaz Singh Deol) had gone to the clinic to get the results of Ben’s HIV test – and the clinic’s corridors looked strangely familiar.
‘Random question… The Walford Sexual Health clinic looks remarkably like the old Holby set or is it me? #EastEnders’ tweeted one sharp-eyed fan and others were quick to pitch in and agree.
On Holby, Keller and Darwin wards were permanently set up to look like hospital wards, kitted out with the appropriate equipment, beds etc. Although most of this equipment was donated back to the NHS and refugee charities after the show ended, the corridors and rooms are likely to be still looking much like they always did and it wouldn’t be hard to repurpose them for these EastEnders scenes.
There were rumours that Neptune House and the other buildings used by Holby City were to be sold off, but so far nothing has been announced.
Holby City’s axing after 23 years caused a massive outcry. Fans praised the show for its groundbreaking storylines and its diversity and inclusivity, strong characterisation and its focus on the work of the NHS.
As the show bowed out with an amazing episode which contained hope and optimism even as it showed the death of iconic and long-serving character Jac Naylor, (Rosie Marcel) there was hope that we might one day get another glimpse into those famous corridors.
We just didn’t expect it to be on EastEnders.
