Holly Willoughby was left in hysterics as Gyles Brandreth joked about his “exciting” on air technical issue on This Morning.
The 74-year-old was discussing Boris Johnson’s resignation with co-hosts Holly, 41, and Phillip Schofield, 61, as his microphone began to crackle against his jumper.
Live on air, Holly pointed out: “We’re having an issue with your microphone, I might have to sit very close to you so you can use mine.”
The mother of three shuffled her chair next to Gyles as the morning show had a special festival in the forest on Thursday.
He muttered: “Oh good, please don’t cancel me for getting too close, you’ve sat next to me.”
As she joked: “I did want to feel the texture of this jumper so that’s fine.”
For the momentous occasion of the Prime Minister’s resignation, Gyles wore a bright yellow knitted jumper that read “The End” on the front that he’s apparently had ready “for weeks.”
As Gyles shared his theories about who could take over as leader of the government and Conservative party, the show cut to footage of the PM so a crew member could run on and fit Gyles with a new microphone.
However, the smooth transition didn’t slightly go to plan. A lot of rustling could be heard, as Gyles said: “Oh this is getting more exciting by the moment.”
Holly let out a chuckle, as the screen continued to show footage from the House of Commons and avoid letting viewers see the behind-the-scenes moment.
“We cut off the picture so you could be re-miked,” Phil exclaimed, “if you hadn’t have said anything no one would have noticed!”
Holly burst into laughter as the camera panned back to the forest, she could be seen hands covering her face as she giggle.
“He had his hand up your jumper,” Phil added, before Gyles added: “It’s a lot of fun going down to the woods today, we’re all in for a big surprise!”

Holly and Phil burst into hysterics as Gyles chuckled proudly and Phil admitted “that’s live telly for you!”
They kept giggling, before trying to compose themselves and move onto the next topic.
Later on in the programme, Phil and Holly won viewers hearts as the made the sweet gesture to double a Spin to Win caller’s prize money after hearing her difficulty living with her disability.
