A MEMBER of the public has revealed what happens behind the scenes of MTV show, Catfish.
The series first aired in 2012 and was based on the 2010 film, Catfish starring the show's host, Nev Schulman.
It documents the truths and lies of online dating, with Nev and his co-host meeting people who fear they are being catfished by someone they are speaking to online.
The series – which now has a UK edition too – has brought some shock moments during its run, and now someone who asked to be on the show has revealed what goes on behind the scenes.
Taking to Reddit, the person explained how they were in an online off/on relationship while in the US, and their love interest kept disappearing and reappearing.
Even though they had moved to another country, they were keen to get to the bottom of what happened and find closure.

"They asked what social media I had for her and to message her asking if she'd be willing to come on the show and to mention that she'd get paid if she did.
"So in short the catfish knows this is coming long before nev and the Co-host actually contact them as well as friends. The catfish and victim get paid to appear."
