On Monday night, Boy George, Chris Moyles and Scarlette Douglas joined the main camp after being marooned on their VIP island. When first entering the camp, the other contestants were excited to be reunited with them, before Charlene began to explain the way they had been doing things around camp. However, tonight, tensions seemed to get the better of Boy George after he branded Charlene “controlling” and claimed it was “Charlene’s Kitchen”.
Dinner time in the camp saw heads clash between Boy George and Charlene when it came to cooking and cleaning up.
As the bag came down, Sue read out the details of their latest ingredients: “You have kangaroo sausages and ladyfingers for dessert.”
Taking charge of the cooking, Charlene stepped in and said: “Slice them small and stir fry them with the spring onions.”
In the Bush Telegraph Scarlette said: “This camp, aka ‘Charlene’s kitchen’, you do what she says, when she says it, get it right.”
Later, Boy George also sat in the Bush Telegraph to complain about Charlene and said: “It’s so weird, that [food] bag comes down and Charlene just turns into an entirely different person.
“It’s amazing, she issues orders and tells everyone what to do. I’m like, ‘Wow’. You know, it’s like, ‘Who are you?’.
“Charlene she just issues orders. For me as an observer of my own feelings, it’s mind-blowing,” he added.
As the rest of the camp washed up, Boy George was sat to one side, with Scarlette asking him: “Didn’t fancy helping BG?”
Boy George explained: “I just feel like Charlene’s very controlling. She tells you what to do and it really rubs you up the wrong way.
“I’m struggling with that, but I’ll get over it. It’s fine, she’s very sweet as well so it’s a real contradiction.
“There’s this controlling side and then there’s this caring side and it confuses me.”
Later, Boy George spoke to Charlene about how he was feeling after Scarlette said she was going to clean the funny.
He told Charlene: “It might be good to say to people, ‘Right you do this today.’ Otherwise, I’m going to feel like I’m not doing anything.
“I want to win stars, that’s my main thing, I’m going to do everything I can to get stars. I want to contribute. You’re very strong.
“Listen, you’re such a beautiful contradiction because you’re like tough, and then you’ve got this beautiful side to you. But it’s challenging for me. I have to say it’s challenging for me.”
She asked: “Why?” before he continued: “Because I’m such a control freak. It’s my stuff and Because you are such a matriarch… and you better accept it, don’t even deny it, look at you, ‘What do you mean?’”
Charlene said in the Bush Telegraph: “We are the democracy of the jungle. There is no like leader, we haven’t told everybody what their roles are, we’ve just not done that, kind of fallen into roles.”
Boy George also said in the Telegraph: “Charlene, she’s the boss. I’m happy to do nothing if people want to take charge. People are taking it but I think there’s going to be some rebellions.”
Back in camp, Boy George added to Charlene: “So Charlene, I don’t mind if you tell me what to do but give me some jobs if you’re going to be the boss.”
Charlene snapped back: “I’m not being the boss,” to which he teased: “You are being the boss baby.”
This isn’t the first time that Boy George has had an issue with Charlene’s cooking after he spoke to Chris Moyles last night about the mushrooms not being cooked properly.
He said: “When I ate the food I felt a bit sick afterwards, I don’t think the mushrooms were cooked.
“And also, it feels like there is a hierarchy in the kitchen with Mike and Charlene and you know, there is this kind of patriarchy. She is very sweet, they set up their thing and we have to find a way of fitting in.
“It is just challenging, I don’t want to be told what to do by someone, because she is quite a bossy boots.”
