ITV’s new drama Innocent debuted on Monday night (May 14) to viewer praise, including comparisons to Broadchurch.
However, it seems there was another aspect of the first episode that caught the eye of viewers.
The four-part drama series airs across consecutive nights this week and stars Lee Ingleby from The A Word and Inspector George Gently) Angel Coulby from Merlin, and Cold Feet star Hermione Norris.
While without doubt an impressive cast, it was actually another familiar face that sent viewers into a tailspin.
The series also featured actor Tony Gardner, known to many as Brian from My Parents Are Aliens, and viewers couldn’t quite believe it.
Here are just a few of their reactions:
“Is that Brian from My Parents are Aliens that’s on Innocent?” one viewer asked.
“I feel kind of bad for Brian from My Parents Are Aliens, trying to be a serious actor in Innocent, when he’ll always just be Brian from My Parents Are Aliens,” added another.
Innocent stars Lee Ingleby as David Collins, a man convicted of his wife’s murder who is released seven years later on a technicality, while Norris also stars as his sister Alice, who is now a surrogate mother to David’s children alongside her husband Rob.
Brian – we mean, Tony – plays a police officer alongside Coulby’s detective Cathy Hudson, who reopens and investigates the cold case.
Innocent continues tonight (May 15) on ITV.
