ActressPaula Lane has joined the cast ofEmmerdale and will be making her on screen debut in a matter of months.
37 year old Paula, who viewers may recognise for previously playing Kylie Platt on Coronation Street, is set to take on the role of Ella Forster who finds herself out of a job after sticking up for Mandy Dingle while at a Veterinary Ball, with ITV calling the character “compassionate and caring”.
And soon after arriving in the Yorkshire Dales, Ella meets local doctor Manpreet Sharma, with the encounter leading Ella to come across an “opportunity” of some kind.
With filming set to take place later this month, Paula has expressed her excitement at kickstarting a “new chapter” on the ITV soap.
“I’m so excited to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Everyone has been so welcoming and I can’t wait to start a new chapter playing the role of Ella,” she said.
“I’ve already heard there are big plans for her and I can’t wait to see her navigate a new life in the village and hopefully make some friends.”
Meanwhile, Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks added: “Ella is a complex and multi-layered character who comes to the village and certainly makes an impact.
“Ostensibly she’s a good, moral character, but is there more to her than meets the eye? We are absolutely thrilled to welcome an actor of Paula’s calibre to the show and we can’t wait to have her light up our screens.”
While she may be a new face on Emmerdale, Paula is no stranger to the world of soaps and appeared on Corrie between 2010 and 2016 where her character Kylie was married to David Platt.
However, after six years on the show, her character was killed off in a fatal stabbing.
Speaking to OK! abouther departure from the show, Paula explained: “I'm not just saying this because I'm involved, but I don't think I've ever read an ending like it.”
She added: “It's something that's never been done in soap before and the audience are going to get a real sense of shock and surprise.”
Away from the cobbles, Paula has starred in several theatre productions in the last few years, including Road at the Oldham Coliseum theatre, Queen Bess at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and #BeMoreMartyn at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester.
Away from our screens, the actressrecently posted a gorgeous snap of herself by a pool in a blue swimsuit as she soaked up the sun.
