James Earl Jones on Celebrating His 90th Birthday: 'Feeling Fantastic and Grateful'

James Earl Jones is officially a member of the esteemed nonagenarian club!

In honor of his 90th birthday on Sunday, the legendary actor opened up about how he planned to celebrate the milestone.

"I'll make an exception and enjoy a slice of strawberry shortcake, my favorite!" he told USA Today via email of the low-key festivities at his home in upstate New York.

Jones, who plans to continue acting "for as long as I can," added that he's "feeling fantastic and grateful."

"Looking back at my life and extensive career, I am so proud of my work and accomplishments. I love growing older and wiser with time," he said.

As for what he'll be thinking about when blowing out his candles this year, Jones shared that he has something very special in mind.

"In order for us to heal and move forward, we need to learn to love and respect each other," he said. "That will be my wish when I blow out my birthday candles."

"Of the countless characters I've portrayed, King Jaffe Joffer remains one of the most enjoyable and iconic characters I've had the pleasure of playing," Jones previously told PEOPLE of reprising his royal role.

"I feel it's the perfect time for everyone to return to Zamunda!" he added. "This powerful cast, both reuniting the original and welcoming the newcomers, represent the essence of Black Royalty. Working with Eddie Murphy has been an indelible experience and his dedication and passion for this project is truly inspiring. It means the world to me to be a part of this beloved franchise."

Coming 2 America premieres on Amazon Prime on March 5.
