The Sandman is almost here, and we’re not just talking about the TV show.
The upcoming Netflix series brings to life the iconic Neil Gaiman comic book and features the King of Dreams as he tries to restore his world years after being imprisoned. And much like fans, several characters in the series cannot believe Dream is back, including Johanna Constantine.
In this TV adaptation, several characters have been gender-bent, including the special detective played by Jenna Coleman. Some fans might remember John Constantine from his own comics, appearances in Lucifer and Legends of Tomorrow, and even his own NBC series that was sadly canceled after just one season. He was played by Matt Ryan in those previous adaptations and Keanu Reeves in the 2005 film.
Cosmopolitan has an exclusive clip from Netflix featuring Jenna as a new 21st-century version of the demon hunter when she meets Dream for the first time after getting a special warning from Mad Hettie about his return and quest to find his missing sand. Does Johanna have it? And what kind of history does she have with Dream? Check out our sneak peek to learn more, below:
Netflix has already announced that Jenna will be playing two versions of the character, one in 2019 as Johanna based on John Constantine and one in the 19th century as an ancestor based on Lady Johanna Constantine in the comics.
What else can we expect from these two iconic characters’ big meeting? Guess you’ll just have to tune in to see.
The Sandman premieres on Friday, August 5 on Netflix.
