Reports surfaced last year that Disney’s 2010 film Tangled would be getting a live-action remake in the coming years, with all-new actors playing Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Now, Hollywood Insider Daniel Richtman claims the role of Rapunzel will be played by Depp’s ex-wife, Heard.

Depp and Heard have been without film jobs for the past year following their public court battle against one another.

Depp filed a lawsuit against a British newspaper on claims he was a “wife-beater”.

Heard testified against the 57-year-old, ultimately winning the court case.

Heard taking on the role of Rapunzel would be a big move for her career and would certainly put her in front of new cinema audiences.

Heard’s best-known role to date has been Mera, the princess of Atlantis, who last appeared in 2018’s Aquaman.

She starred in the blockbuster movie opposite Game of Thrones and Justice League star Jason Momoa.

This casting news follows further claims that Depp had been quietly removed from his seminal film franchise, The Pirates of the Caribbean.

Disney’s flagship series experienced dwindling box office returns after each subsequent film was released.

Pirates of the Caribbean’s fourth film, 2017’s On Stranger Tides, is still the most expensive film ever made, coming in at $378.5 million. It grossed more than $1 billion at the box office.

On Disney hiring Heard, a source told the National Enquirer: “For Amber to be in the running for a Disney pic is the ultimate insult.

“Especially because he believes the company made millions of dollars off his name.”

News of Heard being picked up to play Rapunzel by Disney follows reports she had been “fired” from DC Comics’ upcoming Aquaman 2.

Yahoo! reported earlier this month Heard was let go from the project after failing a “physical exam”.

They wrote Heard “gained a little weight before the commencement of the shoot and the makers are not keen on continuing to work with her”.

Website Sausage Roll added: “Amber Heard did not pass her physical examination.

“She’s put on some pounds and is in terrible shape. There is a clause in her contract which says she is required to be in good form ahead of shooting and she violated that.”

Separate news said Heard had been replaced by Star Wars actor Emilia Clarke.

Casting Clarke as Mera would team her up with Momoa once again, after playing on-screen couple Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones.

Both of these claims were pulled into question, however, by Hollywood Reporter writer Ryan Parker.

He wrote to his followers on Twitter: “Told by a reliable source that reports of Amber Heard being fired off Aquaman 2 are inaccurate.”
