Kaye Adams and her Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Kai Widdrington appeared on Monday’s instalment of It Takes Two following their elimination from the BBC competition. The Loose Women star was the first celebrity to be booted off this year’s series of the ballroom dancing show. She got tearful sitting next to Kai as she reflected on her dancing experience with host Rylan Clark.

Kaye and Kai’s Charleston to Music! Music! Music! by Dorothy Provine landed them low down on the leaderboard on Saturday evening.

They were in the bottom two in Sunday’s results show against singer Matt Goss and Ukrainian dancer Nadiya Bychkova who performed a Samba to Night Fever by The Bee Gees.

Following the dance-off, it was the end of 59-year-old Kaye’s Strictly journey as they became the first couple to leave this year’s competition.

Kaye got visibly emotional as she opened up about being eliminated with It Takes Two host Rylan.

Kai, who joined Kaye for the interview, said: “The first week you [Kaye] were a bundle of nerves but this week it was the perfect dance to come out and just go, ‘Here we are, look at me and let’s just have some fun.’

“And yes it wasn’t the best Charleston the world’s ever seen but for you, it was a massive achievement.”

Kaye quipped: “This man should be a motivational coach, I’ve learned so much from Kai, beyond dancing, from his attitude to competing, coaching and getting me ready for the dance-off which I found really difficult.

“I’ve seen a few people saying, ‘She looked like a rabbit in the headlights’ and all I can say is, yes I was. I blanked. I was tired!”

Reflecting on being the first to leave the show, Kai said: “We knew it was going to be a tough night because everyone is upping their game after week one, the standard this year is so good, there’s seven or eight there that could be in the final easily, so we knew it was going to be a tough night and to get through would be difficult.”

Kai was in the dance-off against his girlfriend Nadiya, but he is determined not to let it affect their relationship.

Kaye started to well up as after she was asked about her time in the BBC competition which is marking its milestone 20th series this year.

The Loose Women presenter tearfully said: “It’s been fantastic it really has, I’m going to cry, it’s been a privilege to meet Kai.”

The Scottish broadcaster went on to say she was going to miss the people she had met during her few weeks in the competition.

A supportive Kai told her: “I hope you can take away joy, because that was our main thing, that you enjoyed it and had fun.”

He added: “I don’t think your dance career is over just yet.”

Many viewers took to Twitter to show their support for Kaye following her elimination.

Hilary Butler penned: “You should be proud of yourself – you were great and we agreed with Ms Ballas.”

Helen added: “I didn’t get to watch you live on Saturday night, but what a difference from week one… You looked great! An achievement in itself to take part, regardless of the early exit from the show. Well done.”

Diana said: “Going to miss you Kaye, you were great.”

Strictly – It Takes Two continues every weeknight at 6:30pm on BBC Two.
