Simon McCoy opened up on his experiences with King Charles and gave a sneak peek into what the new monarch is like in private. The former BBC newsreader shared his interactions with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby on This Morning.
Reflecting on the special royal episode of The Repair Shop, the former GB News anchor told Phillip he saw a side of the King only few are able to see.
Discussing the King’s appearance with Jay Blades, Simon remarked: “You saw, you’re ambassadors of the Prince’s Trust, as am I and you saw a side of King Charles you don’t see.
“He has a wicked sense of humour and that relationship with Jay was fantastic.”
Phillip also waxed lyrical on the personality of the King and added to the praise.

The ITV presenter added: “If you watch the full programme, they’re touchy-feely, they’re laughing.”
“The King, now, was doing a funny voice at one stage”, Phillip enthused.
He declared : “It was a really brilliant insight. I thought Jay got a lot out of him which you don’t usually see.”
Holly Willoughby, who is also an ambassador for the King’s charity the Prince’s Trust, strongly agreed to the pair’s glowing declaration.
As part of the BBC’s 100 year anniversary celebrations, the King invited Jay, Steve Fletcher and the rest of the crew to Dumfries House.
His majesty was no different to the other stellar guests on the show and required some restoration to be undertaken too.
On the special royal visit, the team had to restore an 18th century clock from the Scottish 2,000 acre estate.
Jay and the team also had to fix some pottery made for Queen Victoria.
Reflecting on his incredible experience with His Royal Highness, Jay commented on the approachable nature of his guest.
As a guest on Morning Live, he said: “Everyone down at The Repair Shop has the same kind of ethos, we love heritage crafts and that’s why we do what we do.
“Meeting him, me, someone from a council estate and him, someone from the royal estate to have the same interests is a joy.”
The much loved TV personality added: “We had a really great time, because we both have the same interests.”
“We want heritage craft to just flourish, so that’s what we were chatting about, really.”
“I am a cheeky chappy, but I didn’t show no disrespect to him, it was all banter.”
“I viewed him as anyone else who walked into the barn. It’s not an arrogance, I just feel like everyone is the same.”
