Kym Marsh exits Morning Live after anxiety battle and father's cancer diagnosis

KYM Marsh has revealed she has stepped back from Morning Live after her family was rocked by health problems.

The TV star made an emotional film explaining she has been away from the BBC breakfast series to "focus on my nearest and dearest".

Former Hear'Say and Coronation Street legend Kym, 45, has been devastated by her dad Dave's prostate cancer diagnosis.

And she revealed the anxiety attacks that plagued her early career had returned "with a vengeance".

Kym said: “For now I'm just gonna take each day as it comes and not put any pressure on myself.

"So I'll, I'll check in on the Morning Live family with my own family for now."

Referring to former co-host Gethin Jones, who is invited to her forthcoming marriage to Army major Scott Ratcliff, she said: "Don’t be getting too comfortable without me, please.

"I'll see you on the dance floor at the wedding.”

She said her poorly dad would be well enough to walk her down the aisle – for some of the way at least.

Kym told viewers in a moving film where she checked in on her dad, who is 76: "I've suffered with anxiety attacks in the past and they've come back with a vengeance.

"Life's been pretty difficult for me. I need to make a choice here about what I'm going to do. I decided to step back from Morning Live to focus on my nearest and dearest."

Speaking about her year of hell, she told Gethin: "You might have noticed I’ve not been around much since the end of July – well there’s been some very good reasons for that.

“I think it’s fair to say the last few months have been ridiculously busy with one thing or another for me and my family.

I've suffered with anxiety attacks in the past and they've come back with a vengeance

“Starting with the beginning of the year when I had my double hernia op which should have been much more straight forward than it was.

“Then we found out my dad has cancer and then we caught Covid.

"Everybody got it, we were like a house of dominos it was horrible it was a nasty cough for me and temperature."

Referring to her 10-year-old daughter with soap star ex Jamie Lomas she said: “The scariest thing was Polly.

"She had one night where her temperature shot up to nearly 40 degrees and it was really scary because she was shivering but absolutely burning hot.”

Many fans sent their best wishes with one tweeting: "Love, hugs and encouragement to Kym Marsh. I hope things improve for you."

Morning Live airs Monday-Friday at 9.15am on BBC One and iPlayer
