Strictly Come Dancing contestant Kym Marsh was unable to host the latest episode of Morning Live with Gethin Jones as she had “caught a bug” on Sunday. Gethin and Oti Mabuse, who had stepped in to replace the 46-year-old, were given a health update by Kym when she appeared on the BBC One show via video link. The former Coronation Street actress told the hosts she was determined to recover so she could dance on Saturday evening with her partner Graziano Di Prima.
Gethin began: “Good morning, usually I would be joined by Kym Marsh on the swivel chair but unfortunately Kym isn’t feeling great so Oti Mabuse has stepped in and it’s always lovely to see you.”
Gethin revealed Kym was on the phone with her doctor on Sunday night as she was not feeling well.
He said: “We thought we would give her a call this morning to see how she is doing after Saturday night.”
Kym, who was wearing a comfy pink jumper and speaking from her Warrington home, appeared via video link to speak with Oti and Gethin about her illness.
She said: “I’m all right, I just caught a little bug off one of the children, unfortunately.
“I caught it yesterday on the train on the way home so that was nice.”
Oti was keen to focus on Kym and her Strictly Come Dancing partner’s outstanding score of 37 points out of a possible 40 at the weekend.
Graziano and Kym gained the high score for their sultry Argentine Tango to Assassin’s Tango by John Powell which placed them second on the leaderboard, a point behind Hamza Yassin.
Kym said: “I was absolutely delighted, we really felt good about this dance and we were really looking forward to getting out there and doing it.
“To get those points and those comments, it was just unbelievable, honestly.
“I don’t think we breathed for about 20 seconds afterwards.”
Gethin, who was impressed with Kym’s dancing skills, thought he had pressed “fast forward” on his remote as the routine was so speedy in places.
“It was just so quick and sharp, it was just full speed ahead,” Gethin exclaimed.
Oti told Kym her favourite part of the steamy routine was when she and Graziano stared at each other at the end of the performance.
“It was so intense at the end, I think that is where you told the story,” the former Strictly Come Dancing winner added.
Gethin was concerned for Kym’s health and asked her if she would recover in time for Saturday’s performance on the dancing show.
An optimistic Kym replied: “Yeah, I will be, I will pull myself through. It’s only one of those 24-hour things and I think you have got to get out there and do it no matter what, even if you’ve got bits dropping off.
“You’ve got to get out there and go for it, otherwise what happens?”
Gethin wished Kym a speedy recovery and told her to “put your feet up and watch the rest of Morning Live”.
Morning Live airs on weekdays from 9.15am on BBC Oneand Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
