Netflix’s newest teen rom-com, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, is out and we’re obsessed! It’s quickly becoming one of the streaming service’s most popular movies, like, ever, and we can totally see why.
For starters, the story is BEYOND cute. And then, look at the amazing cast! We would literally die for Noah Centineo, who plays Peter Kavinsky. He is a true prince. But who we really love the most is Lara Jean, played by the amazing Lana Condor.
Despite how talented she is, the 21-year-old has only done a handful of film projects before landing this starring gig. But that really doesn’t matter, TBH, because she blows her role out of the park. So, what’s the tea on our newest fave young actress? You can probably already tell from her Instagram that she’s a beauty, but here’s everything else you need to know about the new Netflix star.
She was born in Vietnam.
Lana is only 21 years old! She was born on May 11, 1997, in Vietnam before being adopted and moving to Chicago where she was raised until she was 15. Her father, Robert Condor, is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist.
She trained as a ballet dancer.
Growing up, Lana trained as a dancer and planned on pursuing a career in ballet when she got older. She trained with many high-profile companies including the Joffrey Ballet before attending the Professional Performing Arts School in New York City. During high school, she also began studying acting, which quickly led to a career in film.
She also was a competitive equestrian.
Not only was Lana a professional dancer, but she was also a competitive equestrian! She revealed the fun fact in an interview with Just Jared and TBH, we’re shook. Is there anything she can’t do?
She got her big break playing Jubilee in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Some young actors get their start in independent films. Others launch their career with small roles on television shows. Lana, on the other hand, made her big break in a huge movie! In 2016, she starred in X-Men: Apocalypse, launching what would soon become a great career for the rising star.
She also starred in Patriots Day
After X-Men, Lana went on to star in another huge movie. She was cast in Patriots Day in 2016 alongside actors Mark Wahlberg, John Goodman, Michelle Monaghan and more. Talk about a quick rise to fame!
She’s a pescatarian.
For starters, Lana loves to cook and that’s pretty clear from her Instagram. She’s an avid watcher of cooking tutorials and takes a bunch of inspiration from them. But, there’s one thing she doesn’t eat: meat.
Yep, Lana is a pescatarian, meaning that although she eats fish, meat is off the table.
She’s basically a fashion icon.
We’re convinced that Lana is flawless. Not only is she an actor, dancer, equestrian and chef, but she’s also basically a fashion icon. Have you seen her Instagram!? This girl has some serious skill when it comes to picking out the perfect outfit.
We stan a stylish sister!
She’s going to be in two other movies this year.
Obsessed with Lana in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before? Here’s some good news — you’ll be able to watch her in two more movies this year!
The 21-year-old also stars in Alita: Battle Angel and Summer Night, which are both coming out in 2018. It’s officially the year of Lana!
She’s all about Asian representation in Hollywood.
A huge reason fans love To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is because it has such great Asian-American representation and obviously, Lana is totally here for that.
In an interview with NYLON she said, “The more you continue to focus on the way that we look, the more you’re inadvertently continuing to put us in a box…But the thing about [Asian media representation becoming a] big talking point this summer is that I hope it continues.”
“We have so many movies with dope representation, I hope it’s not just going to be this summer,” she continued. “I hope that it continues on to the fall, and the winter, and the spring, and next summer, and it keeps going. We’re in an awesome time right now, but we still have a long way to go.”
She’s dating actor Anthony De La Torre.
We know this may be heartbreaking, but no, Lana is not dating co-star Noah Centineo. That’s okay, though, because her IRL boyfriend is super cute!
For the past three years, she’s been dating actor Anthony De La Torre, and here’s some extra tea to warm your heart. Lana told Us Weekly that since the Netflix film came out, he’s been sending her love letters every day. Our hearts are quaking!
