The Last Kingdom: Netflix tease fourth season of show
The Last Kingdom season five has officially been given the green light, much to the delight of fans. The new season will be airing on Netflix soon but it is too early to give an official release date at this time. Carnival Films confirmed the return of The Last Kingdom on July 7, 2020. The ten-part fifth season will continue the adaptation of Bernard Cornwell’s best-selling series of novels, The Saxon Stories. The new series will be based on books nine and ten – The Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer.
In season five Uhtred will realise his destiny is more than just claiming back his homeland of Bebbanburg.
His fate is in fact tied to the future of England itself and how it becomes a united country.
Nigel Marchant, Executive Producer, Carnival Films, said: “We are really proud of The Last Kingdom, which continues to entertain audiences all over the world. We had such a tremendous response to the last season, so are thrilled to be bringing it back for season five on Netflix.
“With such a loyal fanbase, we’re excited to give viewers a chance to follow Uhtred on the next stage of his quest.”
Actor Dreymon has since confirmed filming would start towards the end of 2021, so fans can hope for an early 2022 release date.

Who will be in the cast of The Last Kingdom season 5?
Alexander Dreymon will naturally be reprising his role as the famous Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
Millie Brady will return as Lady Aelthelflaed of Mercia, and Timothy Innes will be back as her brother, King Edward.
Uhtred’s loyal band of followers including Finan (Mark Rowley), Osferth (Ewan Mitchell) and Sihtric (Arnas Fedaravicius) will also return.
At the end of the fourth season, Lady Aelswith’s life was left hanging in the balance, so it is not certain whether actress Eliza Butterworth will be back.
Fans may also see some new faces added to the cast, as new characters are always introduced.
Is there a trailer for The Last Kingdom season 5?
Sadly as the news has only just come to light, there is not a trailer for the fifth season just yet.
Netflix will most likely drop a trailer the month before the series is due to air.
There is no indication of when the new series will air yet, so fans are looking at 2021 at the earliest for a trailer.
Carnival films has already teased what will happen in the new season, as Uhtred realises he is needed to unite England.

What will happen in The Last Kingdom season 5?
A teaser for the new season says: “Charged with training King Edward’s first-born son Aethelstan as a warrior, Uhtred’s ambition will have an even higher purpose.
“But to achieve this destiny, Uhtred will have to face down his greatest enemy and suffer his greatest loss.”
With this in mind fans are likely to see much more of Aethelstan (Casper Griffiths), who was only briefly featured in season four.
Uhtred is also likely to lose some people close to him, and he may have to fight his old friend Brida (Emily Cox) once more.
With great losses mentioned, this will be an emotional series for fans.
With season five covering books nine and 10, there are still two books left to cover.
Fans are already looking forward to seeing Uhtred create a new legacy for himself on season five.
He may also return to Bebbanburg once more to make a final attempt at claiming back his birthright.
