Kelli Giddish’s forthcoming exit as detective Amanda Rollins was confirmed earlier this year, but Law and Order: Special Victim Unit fans still aren’t prepared to say goodbye after her incredible 12-season run. The latest trailer for the next episode on NBC has promised an emotional final episode for the iconic crime-solver, but many viewers still aren’t happy with how her departure has been handled.
Law and Order’s fanbase is still disappointed with NBC for bringing Kelli’s SVU stint to an unexpected conclusion this season.
The ninth episode of season 14, And A Trauma In A Pear Tree, will bring the spin-off’s current instalment to its winter hiatus.
It also appears to end on a happy note for Rollins, although Olivia Benson (played by Mariska Hargitay) and Fin Tutuola (Ice-T) are clearly stunned to see her go.
In an emotional trailer, Rollins tells her team: “I’m leaving SVU.”
Benson is clearly just as stunned by the show’s fans by the news, as she clutches her hand to her chest and is seen in tears throughout the teaser.
However, Rollins’ final SVU appearance will also be cause for celebration as she’s seen entering a courtroom in a white wedding gown.
Rollins is expected to be marrying Assistant District Attorney Sonny Carisi (Peter Scanavino), whom she has been dating since the start of season 23.
“Are you gonna start crying already, Liv?” Tutuola asks as Benson brings in Rollins for a tearful hug.
Despite her promised happy ending, viewers are still unhappy with how Kelli’s tenure on SVU has come to an end this year.
Variety reported the decision to axe Rollins was actually made by showrunner David Graziano, not Kelli, and at least two producers – including Mariska – fought for her to stay.
When the latest promo was posted on YouTube, user @Currently here replied: “I’m happy Rollins is getting her happy ending.
“But I still find it disgraceful the way Kelli was forced out. I’ll be done with the show after this episode.”
And Lucy Ukwa said: “I really feel for Kelli! I can’t imagine how this decision affects her. I will miss Rollins, but I’ll miss Kelli even more.”

Over on Twitter, @Brigett_alex wrote: “To my SVU followers, I literally just started crying. I’m literally going to cry in this episode. I’m gonna miss Kelli so much.”
“This is super cute and I’m so proud of her but this should not be happening yet,” @Grayvn_ said, posting a touching clip of Sonny and Rollins.
“Kelli should’ve been there until the end. I wish she really could say no right now.”
While @BillieJoy9 said: “I won’t watch it anymore. #SVU has been tainted. Them firing #KelliGiddish is a slap to my face.
“If she’s not current enough for them, neither am I. So they can keep their new #SVU version. If they don’t want her, they don’t want me as a viewer either. So bye!”
And @rollinsxcarisi even threatened to boycott the series: “It really sucks that Kelli is leaving and she really shouldn’t have been fired.
“Her final episode looks like a good last episode for her and me because I will not be watching SVU without Amanda Rollins.” (sic)
Much of the fanbase is clearly in agreement about Kelli’s exit, so NBC will have to see how popular the series remains without one of its staple characters on the team.
Law and Order: SVU season 24 continues Thursdays on NBC in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
