Leyla Harding’s (Roxy Shahidi) 2023 gets off to a bad start in Emmerdale.

Following her split from Liam (Jonny McPherson), Leyla has started living a very lonely life and because she’s feeling so incredibly isolated, she soon reaches for the one thing she’s spent ages trying to live without – drugs.

Throughout the summer of this year, we established Leyla would often get high on cocaine at posh dos away from the village.

This storyline was introduced thanks to the arrival of Suzy (Martelle Edinborough), an events manager who would also deal drugs to Leyla and her pals.

Coming up, feeling stressed at work, Leyla’s negative emotions increase when Liam pays her a visit and pushes her to sign the divorce papers.

Later on, Leyla learns of Bernice (Samantha Giles) and Liam’s romantic moment (which happens over New Year’s Eve).

Agitated and hurt, Leyla routes through her bag and tries to find some cocaine.

With nothing to hand, she calls Callum and tells him to meet up at the viaduct.

Despite Leyla’s hesitancy, she ends up buying the drugs from Callum but back at home, her focus shifts – Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) finds her with the cocaine.

But can Jacob help his mum?
