LINE of Duty's Vicky McClure points a gun at Martin Compston in new series 6 pictures.

Fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the brand new series and the cast have whet their appetite with these snaps from behind the scenes.

Jed Mercurio, the write for the police drama, posted the photos on Twitter, one of which showed Vickie flash a cheeky smile as she held a gun to the back of co-star Martin, who looked none the wiser.

On the ground, someone could be seen facing away from the camera, sporting a balaclava while holding a gun.

In the other snaps, Martin, Vickie and Adrian Dunbar were wearing their masks as they had a chat together, but the smiles soon vanished as they channeled their alter-egos in the third snap.

Jed captioned the picture: "#LineofDuty6 Another great week of filming in Belfast."

Vickie chimed in and replied: "Behind the scenes…but who’s behind the balaclava #LOD6."

Fans couldn't contain their excitement as one wrote: "Looking absolutely great you guys! So excited for the next series."

A second fan added: "Awesome! Can't wait for this! Wife and I have recently binge watched all 5 series on iplayer and love it. Great writing, kept us guessing in each series."

While a third user posted: "Soooo frigging excited!!!!!"

Last month, more behind the scenes photos showed Line of Duty newcomer Shalom Brune-Franklin throwing herself into filming.

Shalom, 26, got straight tin to the action on set in Belfast, seemingly coming under fire after a car chase in which a van overturned.

The Our Girl star, told Radio Times she is a huge fan of Line of Duty.

She gushed: "I was running around, being a fangirl and I don’t know if that’s ever going to wear off."
