Martin Compston has dropped a major hint that Line of Duty may return for another season.

The hit BBC one police drama finished its sixth and supposedly final season last year when it revealed the true identity of the hidden mastermind ‘H.’

However, Martin, 38, who plays DI Steve Arnott on the show has revealed that he has spoken with creator and writer Jed Mercurio about the potential next season.

He admitted: “We sat down with Jed recently."

"We’ve always taken a year or two between series. This is no different," he continued.

“We won’t do it for the sake of it. We’ll do it if there’s something to tell.”

The drama finished in May 2021, but fans have been desperate for the series to return.

Martin admitted the cast and crew have been overwhelmed by the support for the show and how much viewers would love to see it return to the small screen.

He said: “It’s amazing knowing people still want us back, especially when colleagues have become my best friends. They and the show really mean a lot to me.”

It comes after his co-star Vicky McClure has also revealed that the main cast “are game” for a reunion on the show.

She told The Guardian: “Should [another season] happen, we’re all game”.

Before she admitted: “I’ll just stick with the guys. I think when it comes to a close, it will be a natural close for us all.”

Martin also fuelled rumours of a new series when he went to dinner with his co-stars Vicky and Adrian Dunbar, who plays Ted Hastings, and Jed himself.

He captioned the snap, "Talking tattoo designs" though it seems the team could have been talking about the seventh season instead.
