It’s been claimed that Love Island star Gemma Owen told Billy Brown that he could pull her for a chat if he wanted, shortly after they began their time in Casa Amor.
However, it may have been that Billy ‘misread’ the situation, a former islander revealed.
Following the events of Casa Amor, while some former couples were reunited – including Gemma and fishmonger Luca Bish – other contestants were sent home, including Cheyanne Kerr and Samuel Agbiji.
The pair stopped by for a chat on the official Love Island: The Morning After podcast, where they spilled the beans about their time on the show to hosts Kem Cetinay and Arielle Free.
At one point, Samuel – who failed to find a connection in Casa Amor – said: ‘When we first came into the Casa Amor villa, Billy told us, like two days in – but I feel like he misread it – he told us that Gemma literally walked up to him – because obviously they knew each other prior – and she made it known to all of us eventually.
‘But she walked up to him and said, “You know you can pull me for a chat if you want to.”’
As the other people present for the podcast reacted with surprise to the revelation, he continued, speculating over what Gemma’s reasoning could be for the move.
‘Now I don’t know, I don’t think she’ll be saying that for any time of reason,’ he postulated.
‘I really don’t think she’d be saying that just for any type of reason. He whispered that to us and that didn’t get aired, but she said that to him.
‘It’s crazy, because when you watch them interact with each other, Billy manages to bring out a different side to Gemma that you never see.’
When the girls’ time in Casa Amor began with the new boys, it was quickly revealed that Gemma knew Billy from the real world, but had not been romantically involved with him.
He showed interest in Paige Thorne before coming back to the main villa with Tasha Ghouri, although Tasha now appears intent on rekindling her romance with Andrew Le Page.
Billy has been acting in a very at-ease manner with Gemma, wrapping his arm around her in the kitchen before she light-heartedly told him to get off, with Luca watching the encounter unfold.
ITV has been contacted for comment.
Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
