Love Island stars day off explained – strict producer rules to beach days

Love Island stars are a busy bunch with all the antics they get up to inside of the villa, but they get one day off every week.

Fans might be forgiven for wondering why, given that the sexy singletons spend most of their time lounging around in the sun and snogging each-other.

But the Love Island experience is perhaps more hectic than it looks as its ITV2 contestants get filmed six days a week with their highs and lows broadcast to the entire nation.

And every week, fans get a special 'Unseen Bits' episode comprised of the best unaired moments from the past week so that they don't go without their daily dose of villa drama.

It's not just to give the castmates a break, though, because it gives the crew a chance to clean up the luxury villa without being disturbed by rowdy islanders.

Love island 2017 winner Kem Cetinay revealed that islanders normally go to the beach and get to take their mics off.

He said: "What happens is, it gives them a day to clean the villa, and you take your mics off, and normally we go to the beach.”

But it turns out the stars are closely watched by producers and have strict rules to abide by, including that they can't discuss anything related to the show.

Kem explained: "So what happens is, when you take your mic off, you are not allowed to talk about anything to do with the show, you have to talk about home life.

"You are being watched by the producers because they don't want you to talk about what is going on.

"They are quite careful about what you talk about because they want to keep it so everyone at home can see it and they get it on video."

He added: "But at the same time, it's their day to clean the villa, get everything done, give you a day off and you have time to relax and not be so intense."

An ITV spokesperson has also revealed that stars have been given beauty treatments in the past.

They said: "Occasionally in the past, some Islanders have been taken out of the villa – for example last year all of the girls were taken out for beauty treatments – but this is at the producers’ discretion and it is very much done on an ad hoc basis (as opposed to a set day each week)."

Love Island 2021 star Chuggs Wallace revealed that producers don't tell islanders what to say but might get you to re-do something for the sake of the cameras.

"Love Island is very much a natural flow, he said. "They might make you redo something or stand somewhere for a camera angle. Or they might just say, when you’re on a date for example – when I was on a date, they were like to Liam and Faye when I was talking, ‘Can you guys be quiet so we can hear them and then you guys can talk after'."

Love Islands airs nightly on ITV2 and ITVX at 9pm
