Married At First Sight UK 's Matt Murray has hit back at fans questioning "where's Whitney" after he posted a photograph with a female friend to his Instagram account.

Taking to his social media on Monday night, Matt shared a photo with his friend as he clarified in the caption: "Trying to explain to the general public that I have friends that are female" with a laughing and facepalm emoji.

He sarcastically added: "Screams 'where's Whitney?'" with more laughing emojis.

In the photo, it sees Matt and his friend, who had captioned the snap with: "Lunch with my most motivational friend. One of the realest #justfriends."

It comes after fans were quick to react to the most "chaotic" episode yet last week as Matt Murray and Whitney Hughes pursued a romance despite being partnered with other people.

Viewers will recall Matt and wife Gemma Rose, as well as Whitney and husband Duka Cav, have had a tumultuous time with their relationships on the show so far.

And during a mini break in the countryside for all the couples, Whitney and Matt decided to pursue their "cute" vibe as they told their fellow partners and co-stars the news with explosive results at the show's dinner party.

Elsewhere, Married At First Sight UK viewers were left shocked on Thursday night after the team of experts finally revealed whether Matt and Whitney could continue to remain in the experiment as a couple.

On Thursday, the panel decided to grant them permission to remain on the show, as they revealed they were a "match on paper".

Fans at home were quick to share their thoughts on the decision on social media, with the vast majority of people condemning the show for "making a mockery" of the process.

“Just watching tonight’s episode. So Whitney and Matt are being allowed to continue to participate. Sorry but that’s the wrong decision experts,” wrote one fan before continuing: “This for me is no longer an experiment I can watch. It’s now 'wife swap UK' in my mind. Total disrespect for Gemma and Duka.”

“No no no! Just wrong! Going to stop watching if they stay! goodbye!” Added another fan.
