Mark, 55, was the quizmaster on hand to take on the latest batch of contestants on The Chase who he needed to defeat so they wouldn’t walk away with a share of the jackpot prize. As host Bradley Walsh, 60, got the game underway, it seemed The Beast wasn’t quite on his A-game as the first two contestants made it back for the Final Chase with ease. As the prize fund stood at £13,000, it was time for player Emma to have her go at facing the ITV star. But when she accepted to take money away from the cash pot, the general knowledge guru was not happy.

The moment came after Emma had managed to accumulate £5,000 in her cash-builder round with Bradley.

When Mark returned to the studio for the third time to take on his latest opponent, he asked the player if she would like to accept a higher or lower amount of money.

At stake was £37,000 to play for, meaning she would take a step closer to the Chaser and a low offer of minus £3,000, meaning she would get a step further away from him.

Host Bradley urged Emma to seek advice from her teammates and the final contestant yet to play, Dot, said: “No, no. Don’t be tempted, go for the middle. Don’t go for the minus.”

Next up was Fergus to have his say and he told his teammate: “Go for the middle. £5,000 is great,” and Matt was also in agreement.

However, she ignored them all as Emma opted to go for minus £3,000 and Mark shared his frustrations for the other players.

“Dot was going to do that in her turn,” he said and added: “You can look at it this way. You really annoyed Dot.

“You have taken her option away from her but, those magic two words that Brad likes to say [Full House] is still on.”

Taking to Twitter, those watching at home also weren’t too impressed with Emma taking money away from the jackpot.

One wrote on the social media platform: “Emma knew what she was going to before the game started #TheChase.”

A second posted of the repeat episode: “Oh yes, I remember Emma and her minus offer taking ways the first time around. Boo #thechase.”

A third fan supported the contestant’s decisions as they commented: “Emma going through gives the team a much better chance of winning but she should have had more confidence in herself. I hope they play for £1,000 in the final #thechase.”

Fortunately for Emma, she made it back for the Final Chase but in doing so, brought the jackpot down to £10,000.

Mark referenced his annoyance at her taking the lower offer again, reiterating exactly what he said before the head-to-head round.

The contestant took her seat on the panel once again and watched as Dot had her chance at adding some money to the prize fund.

Unfortunately, the pensioner was knocked out by The Beast this meant the three finalists were playing for a share of £3,333.

Putting their heads together for the first time in the episode, the trio managed to accumulate 16 steps that Mark had to match to stop them from winning.

Unfortunately, despite a few pushbacks, the Chaser outran the players with just three seconds still on the clock.

This meant the jackpot was wiped away and the contestants left with nothing but Mark was disappointed by his performance.

“That’s probably the slowest I’ve ever played,” The Beast star remarked as he tried to make sense of what had happened.

Though, fans on Twitter still applauded his efforts as one wrote: “#thechase Well done The Beast.”

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
