Met Gala 2019 Red Carpet – what time does it start in the UK, what is the theme this year and is there a live stream?

THE Met Gala has quite literally become the most important night in fashion.

Hollywood stars from Sarah Jessica Parker to Rihanna dress to impress at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art with a specific theme specified by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Find out all the information about this year’s fashion extravagant.

What time does it start in the UK?

The annual gala party will take place in New York City on the first Monday of May, which would be May 6, 2019.

The red carpet coverage is believed to start at 12 am (May 7, 2019), when reporters will begin reporting on all the outfits worn by celebrities and the fashion elite.
Interviews with notable A-list names ranging from Bella Hadid to Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez will simultaneously be held across different stations as the broadcast syncs between different feeds.

The length of each red carpet varies each year.

What is the theme of the year?

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the new theme of this year’s gala: ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’.

The choice of wear will be centred around camp costumes, as noted by Vogue contributor Osman Ahmed.

This is a particular theme in which fashion critics already predict Rihanna and Lady Gaga to pull exceptionally well, having shown up to the gala wearing impressive fittings in the past.

According to The New York Times, there’ll be plenty of unusual and exaggerated pieces of fabric worn on the red carpet to accentuate the idea of camp.

“The essence of Camp is its love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.”

Costume Institute Curator Andrew Bolton continued to express why the decision to focus on this particular theme for this year’s gala, saying: “We are going through an extreme camp moment.”

“And it felt very relevant to the cultural conversation to look at what is often dismissed as empty frivolity but can be actually a very sophisticated and powerful political tool, especially for marginalized cultures.”

Is there a live stream available?

The Met Gala 2019 will not be televised but will be made available to stream online.

It is currently unknown which website will host the live stream on – an official site is usually known at the beginning of May.

Viewers will only be able to catch the red carpet coverage online.
The gala has never been televised before, and it doesn’t seem as if there are any current plans to make any change in that.

Guests are greeted to a warm welcome of photographers on the red carpet, but once inside the museum, they will enjoy a rather peaceful dinner with Hollywood’s biggest names without the intrusion of nearby cameras.
