Michael Owen couldn’t bear to watch to watch his daughter Gemma take part in any saucy Love Island challenges, which often included kissing Luca Bish.
Gemma, 19, and Luca, 23, exited the villa as runners-up to Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, and have gone from strength to strength back home – having already been on holiday together, met each other’s families, and even done the almighty food shop.
Former professional footballer Michael has refrained from speaking out too much about his daughter’s involvement on the show, and only mum Louise visited the villa during the highly-anticipated ‘meet the parents’ episode, but he’s now revealed that while he did watch some episodes, he couldn’t watch the challenges.
He revealed: ‘She’s pretty sensible and she’s a good kid and I had no worries. I just didn’t bring myself to watch some of the challenges and things like that.’
He continued to The Sun: ‘I don’t like seeing my daughter kiss people, but I probably watched 30 to 40% of the show.’
However, Michael still found ways to keep updated with what Gemma was up to in the villa.
‘On the days that I didn’t watch, I was on the phone to the wife at five past ten asking, “How did she do?”‘ he added.
After the finale wrapped up, Michael shared a sweet message dedicated to Gemma on social media, with a picture of them sitting together: ‘She’s done us proud.’
This isn’t the first time Michael’s admitted he couldn’t bear to watch what Gemma got up to in the villa.
During the saucy heart rate challenge, while Luca may have been left swooning, Michael wasn’t so keen, hilariously sharing an emoji covering its face on Twitter.

During their latest update to newfound fans, the couple revealed they had gone food shopping together after they both expressed a wish to do this when they arrived home.
In a TikTok uploaded by Gemma, the duo can be seen cruising around their local branch of Marks and Spencer, with a load of foodie items going straight in their trolley.
Meanwhile, on Luca’s account, he described them as having completed a ‘major milestone’ by making the trip together.
In the clip, Gemma and Luca can be seen having fun in the popular supermarket, picking various snacks to take home with them.
At one point, the pair even cruise around on a trolley, as they laugh their way through the task.
Luca can also be seen throwing bags of sweets and chocolate into the trolley, and we’re pretty jealous right now.
Love Island is available to watch on ITV Hub.
