Moira (Natalie J. Robb) was left fuming at the end of tonight’s Emmerdale as Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) revealed what she knew about Al (Michael Wildman) and Chas (Lucy Pargeter)’s affair. She’d just found out that Chas hadn’t ended the affair as she’d promised Belle she would – and it had led to Al’s death.

Belle discovered the information after Chloe (Jessie Elland) found a receipt for the hotel where Al had taken someone out for dinner on the night Faith (Sally Dexter) died. Belle realised it must have been Chas who was with Al, then everything else fell into place for her.

She confronted Chas, who at first tried to deny it but then realised the game was up. She once again tried to use the excuse that the affair had been a necessary escape from the pressures of dealing with Faith’s illness. ‘Don’t you ever, ever use Faith’s cancer for an excuse for what you have done,’ Belle snapped at her. ‘You did it because you wanted to.’ She outlined how Al had left her business in debt and left Kerry (Laura Norton) also in debt and heartbroken – ‘But it’s just poor you,’ she said contemptuously.

Then Belle had a realisation about Al. ‘This is why Cain (Jeff Hordley) killed him, isn’t it?’

Later, Belle was at home when Moira called round and found her upset. Belle told her what she’d discovered about Chas. She was going to leave Paddy (Dominic Brunt) and take Eve with her, Belle explained to an increasingly horrified Moira. ‘And Cain found out and I guess that’s why he did what he did.’

Belle blamed herself for not speaking out earlier and trusting Chas at her word when she said she’d ended things with Al. She said if she had exposed what Chas was doing, maybe Al wouldn’t be dead and Cain wouldn’t be in prison.

As Moira took Belle into her arms to reassure her that she wasn’t to blame, anger was etched on her face as she realised that Chas was the cause of all awful things her family was struggling with. Not only Cain’s imprisonment, but the fear that the family are living through day by day as they try to keep it a secret that it was young Kyle (Huey Quinn) who killed Al. Added to this the toll that it’s taking on Kyle’s mental health.

Earlier we’d seen Kyle visiting Cain in prison along with Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson), and the grief and guilt that Kyle had on knowing that his dad was in prison to protect him.

The question is now – what will Moira do with this information? From the anger on her face it looks like Chas needs to be very careful indeed.
