Before the highly anticipated fifth season of the popular Spanish thriller gets started on Netflix, fans have been trying to guess how the final steps in the Professor’s master plan will play out. Following Money Heist’s gripping finale earlier this year, Alicia Sierra could be about to make some unexpected moves.

Production on Money Heist’s eagerly awaited fifth and final season is currently underway following significant delays in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

Each season has been more gripping than the last so far, and fans can’t wait to see how the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) and the team pull off their second caper.

Things took a dark turn at the end of season four, and the gang became more determined than ever after the devastating death of fan favourite Nairobi (Alba Flores).

Meanwhile, the season finale left Money Heist on a game-changing cliffhanger as former inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri) infiltrated the Professor’s hideout.

Holding the criminal mastermind at gunpoint in the final moments, fans are desperate to find out if the Professor’s unpredictable rival will pull the trigger when the series returns.

No release date has been set, but the show’s current filming schedule has Netflix subscribers hopeful the last instalment will be available to stream early next year.

As the lengthy wait for new episodes continues, fans are busy trying to decipher the long list of cryptic clues and tantalising rumours from the set of Money Heist.

All eyes are already on the heavily pregnant Alicia Sierra, as a large portion of the fanbase is convinced she’s harbouring a secret connection to Berlin’s (Pedro Alonso) ex-wife, Tatiana (Diana Gómez).

Most speculation is centred around her pregnancy, however, an unconventional choice for a criminal anti-hero’s judiciary yet sadistic foil.

Some fans have even suggested Alicia is faking her pregnancy as an underhanded tactic to catch criminals off their guard.

Alternatively, one of the most popular theories suggests Alicia and the Professor’s stand-off will be interrupted when the disgraced inspector goes into labour.

If Alicia’s contractions start in the opening episode, this could be used as a bargaining chip to distract the Professor from the Bank of Spain heist.

A number of fans took to Reddit to discuss the infinite possibilities for how Money Heist’s thrilling final instalment could begin.

Redditor NiteLiteOfficial posted: “I think Alicia will have her water break as she’s holding the gun to the Professor and he will help her.

“Then she will realise that if she kills the Professor, she will go to jail still based on her leaks to the press. Killing him won’t redeem her.”

Alicia was fired from the force for her unlawful policing tactics, including torturing Rio (Miguel Herrán) for leverage over the team.

Much like Raquel (Itziar Ituño) at the end of season two, Alicia may end up joining forces with the Professor when she realises he’s more useful as an ally than an enemy.

However, another fan argued: “I agreed up until you said that she’ll have a fresh start.

“Instead I think the Professor will help deliver the baby, but as he’s finished police will bust in and capture Alicia while the professor takes the child to safety.”

Unfortunately, the series is coming to an end with the fifth season, otherwise a follow-up instalment could see the Professor raising a child to eventually take over his criminal enterprise.

Money Heist season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
