Some people just belong on TV, and Nathan Fillion is definitely one of them.
Thankfully, ABC has managed to lure Fillion back to a life of crime-solving! The actor will star in the new cop-themed dramedy The Rookie. In fact, the show nabbed a straight-to-series order and will also reunite Fillion with Castle showrunner and executive producer Alexi Hawley.
The new ABC series centers around John Nolan who is the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Despite being at an age where he should be at the peak of his career, Nolan finds himself at a crossroads. He ultimately leaves behind his cushy, small-town life and moves to L.A. to pursue his dream of becoming a cop. Unfortunately, things aren’t exactly as he imagined they would be. When Nolan gets to L.A., he realizes that he’s surrounded by rookies twenty years his junior. Determined to make his second chance at life truly count, Nolan puts himself in dangerous and hilarious situations as he attempts to navigate the unpredictable world of the LAPD.
Despite being described as a dramedy, The Rookie looks more like an intense drama based on its first trailer. Of course, any project that involves Fillion has some inherent comedic elements to it. That’s precisely why we wouldn’t be surprised if his character bust out some crazy dance moves during a standoff.
