The 2019 film about a haunted polaroid camera, has been dubbed the “worst horror movie ever made” and is set to be removed from Netflix.

Norwegian director Lars Klevberg helmed the supernatural horror film which stars Riverdale actor, Madelaine Petsch, Skins alum Kathryn Prescott, Twin Peaks star Grace Zabriskie.

According to the official synopsis, the plot follows “high school loner Bird Fitcher [who] finds a vintage Polaroid camera that holds dark and mysterious secrets.

“She soon realises that those who get their picture taken by it meet a tragic and untimely death.”

But, even with the horror flick’s unusual premise, it has been labelled the “worst horror movie in the world” by critics and viewers alike.

When it was released, Polaroid didn’t receive any positive critical reviews, and only raked in severely negative critiques on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, the film has a Tomatometer rating of 0% after only five reviews.

One critic called it “a padded-out endeavour that can’t quite justify a feature-length running time,” while another said, it’s “so underdeveloped you’ll want to shake it.”

“A horror film that should just be forgotten,” added another critic. “The gimmick doesn’t work, the actors look bored, the effects are awful. This looks like a bad X-Files episode.”

Polaroid is now set to be removed from Netflix in August, after just two years on the streaming platform.

However, Netflix initially expected the movie to perform better, and was keen to invest money into it before it was released in 2019.

Netflix made a deal to acquire the production rights to Polaroid in 2018 after Spyglass Media (formerly Lantern Entertainment) delayed the film, which was originally scheduled for release in 2017.

However, that deal fell through, and instead Netflix picked the streaming rights to the film in 2020.
