The Chase: Kirsty Wark forgets to press the answer button
Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark has claimed she was once bullied at work by another woman.
The 68-year-old is best known for being part of the BBC programme Newsnight after joining in the early 90s.
However, she revealed earlier this month she’ll be stepping down from the show after three decades following the next election.
Despite Newsnight’s audience figures falling, along with editor Stewart Maclean leaving, Kirsty remains hopeful for its future as she told Radio Times the investigations are the core of the show.
Having exposed the likes of bullying at Birmingham hospitals and the Metropolitan Police WhatsApp scandal, the presenter called Newsnight one of the BBC’s engines.

However, the reputation of the programme was damaged back in 2011 when an exposure of sexual abuser Jimmy Savile was suppressed by BBC management.
When asked if that decision hurt her as a Newsnight loyalist, Kirsty called the situation upsetting.
She commented: “It wasn’t Newsnight’s fault, but did the BBC do the best it can do?
“Sometimes that’s lacking. You’ve just got to hope that in time we catch these things.”

The presenter went on to express that the one thing she can’t stand is bullying, adding: “Every organisation must look to its laurels about that. Everyone at every level must be able to come forward.
When asked whether or not she’d ever experienced bullying herself, she replied: “Once in Scotland. But three years later we met and she apologised. It was a woman.
“Maybe when there were only one or two of us around there may have been a slight concern about young women coming up behind.”
According to the BBC, this incident happened over 30 years ago before Kirsty had joined Newsnight and a complaint was never made.
Although Kirsty will no longer be part of the Newsnight family, she won’t be leaving the broadcaster completely.
The presenter will continue to present shows such as The Reunion and Start the Week on Radio 4.
Speaking about her exit, she said: “It is an enormous privilege to be involved in such a rigorous, creative programme with a wonderful, talented, bunch of colleagues – actually many bunches over the years, led, most recently by Esme Wren followed by Stewart Maclean.
“There’s not a day when I don’t look forward to coming to the office.”
She confessed that when the time comes for her to leave, it’ll be a massive wrench.
Newsnight continues weeknights on BBC from 10.30pm.
