Marsali (played by Lauren Lyle) has had far from an easy time of things since her introduction in the third season of Starz’s Outlander. And while Lyle is used to filming emotional scenes opposite the likes of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, the actor has now landed a major leading role away from the Diana Gabaldon-created drama – although it sounds like horrors in a very different form won’t be too far away.

Lyle has signed up to star in the upcoming all-female thriller Something In The Water.

But rather than historical, time-travelling dilemmas coming her way, Lyle will be tackling the threat of shark attacks in open water.

The feature-length blockbuster follows five female pals as a wedding descends into mayhem, leaving them fighting for their lives.

Lyle took to Instagram to share a snap from the location after she headed to the Dominican Republic to film the movie.

In view of her 218k followers, Lyle photographed the crystal-clear sea and towering palm tree on set, simply captioning the snap with a shark emoji.

Lyle didn’t include any of her co-stars or herself in the snap but she’ll be joined by a number of recognisable faces in the film. 

The Larkins star Natalie Mitson, who ITV viewers will know best for playing Pauline opposite Bradley Walsh’s Pop Larkin, will also star.

While Killing Eve and Ten Percent star Hiftu Quasem will also play a leading role in the thriller.

Elsewhere in the cast, relative newcomer Nicole Rieko Setsuko and EastEnders alum Ellouise Shakespeare-Hart will appear.

Director Hayley Easton Street commented on the film [via Deadline]: “This is an elevated survival film, unlike anything else I’ve worked on, with incredible strong female leads at the heart of the story. 

“Something In The Water will be an emotional and visual experience, putting the audience at the centre of the action and using seamless VFX to bring the terror to life. 

“I couldn’t be more excited to helm this movie,” she concluded.

Meanwhile, Lyle has been inundated with congratulatory messages after announcing her involvement in the flick.

In response to her Instagram post, @keelshar59 commented: “I could think of tougher locations to have to work.”

While @emdatsgood expressed their excitement: “All female cast. Love it. Shark thriller? Love it. This is exciting news.”

And @dormansparkgirl weighed in: “Don’t like the sound of sharks… but the set looks good!” followed by a shark emoji.

Meanwhile, @vicki.vew commented: “Congrats it sounds great!!! And what a location.”

And @stellarose2602 urged: “@laurenlyle7 this looks like so much fun!! be safe!!! Can’t wait to see it!!”

A release date for Something In The Water is yet to be announced with filming only just beginning.
