People Can't Stop Naming Their Babies After 'Game Of Thrones' Characters

A girl has a name after all.

According to a recent BBC report, 343 newborns in England and Wales have been given the name Arya, inspired by Maisie Williams’s character on hit HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. That’s a 14 percent increase compared to last year’s 302 babies given the name. This statistic isn’t surprising considering Arya is one of the most popular characters on the show.

Coming in second place is Khaleesi, a name awarded to 76 baby girls. Daenerys was also a popular choice, although the actual statistic wasn’t disclosed. Nonetheless, it appears that parents want their daughters to be as tough and bold as the Mother of Dragons.

Meanwhile, 11 baby boys were given the name Tyrion after Peter Dinklage’s witty and intelligent character. Oh, and it’s also the role that earned the actor three Emmys. Not bad!

If you’re planning to name your future offspring after a Westerosi character, let this quick ranking serve as your guide:

  • 1

Cersei has a regal ring to it — just cross your fingers that your daughter won’t grow up to be a murderous ruler.

  • 2

This is a great way to pay tribute to such a badass character. May your daughter grow up to be as brave as Brienne of Tarth.

  • 3

An ode to the character who never fails to remind boys that they know nothing.

  • 4

Who wouldn’t want to be named after the Lady of Winterfell?

  • 5

Margaery is the medieval equivalent of the name Margaret, and means “pearl.” It’s quite beautiful, isn’t it?

  • 1

This one’s actually decent, but you may be reminded of the evil spawn that is Joffrey Baratheon every time you scream at your child to clean their room.

  • 2

A nice spin on more commonly used versions like Samuel or Samson.

  • 3

Eddard isn’t a bad name — except that it’s reserved for 43-year-old uncles who crack way too many dad jokes during family reunions. Sorry, but it doesn’t suit a cutie patootie newborn baby.

  • 4

Only give this name to your kid if his first name is going to be “Raisin.”

  • 5

Listen, if you’re going to name your child Peter, you might as well spell it the traditional way. No need to give your kid the same name as the traitorous scum that is Littlefinger.
