According to a new report, the filming for the upcoming season 3 of the hit Netflix series was initially scheduled for Monday, July 25 but it was stopped without previous warning.
AceShowbiz -“The Witcher” reportedly halted its season 3 production after star Henry Cavill contracted COVID-19. According to “The Witcher” fan site Redanian Intelligence, the filming was initially scheduled for Monday, July 25 but it was stopped without previous warning. That allegedly led to the initial rumors of a halted production.
A source told the site that the pause took place when the series got ready to shoot a big battle scene coming straight from the books. The fan-awaited battle scene is expected to involve the vast majority of the entire cast, including Henry who plays Geralt of Rivia on the hit Netflix series.
Despite the illness, the source assured fans that Henry will undoubtedly beat the virus and recover in no time. While waiting for Henry’s recovery, the cast and crew will seemingly be taking the majority or the entire week off. Thankfully, it’s expected that filming for “The Witcher” season 3 will not be affected too much despite the halt.
In response to the news, fans sent well-wishes for the Superman depicter in the DCEU. “Get well soon Henry,” one fan wrote in an Instagram comment. “So that’s why he wasn’t at comic con,” another person said, referring to the San Diego Comic-Con. Joking, one fan penned, “Thats the kryptonite variant.”
This is not the first time for “The Witcher” to pause production due to COVID-19. Back in 2020, the production for season 2 was also halted due to the pandemic, pushing the release of the sophomore season to December 2021.
The forthcoming season 3 of “The Witcher” will adapt “The Time of Contempt”, the second entry in Andrzej Sapkowski’s five-book series, “The Witcher Saga”. The book follows Geralt and Ciri’s relationship as they learn more about the girl’s power. The book also sees Geralt having to let go of his neutral position towards the Continent politics because different forces start to hunt Ciri.
Netflix has yet to reveal the release date for season 3, but fans are hoping to be able to find out the continuation of story involving Geralt of Rivia (Henry), Ciri (Freya Allan) and Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) in early 2023 at the latest.
