Queen of the South is based on the book La Reina del Sur, written by Spanish author Arturo Pérez-Reverte. The series began in 2016 and slowly but surely Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) has carved a name for herself within the drug world. She will be back this year when the drama starts airing its fifth series on USA Network.

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Queen of the South.

Queen of the South series four was a shocking season as viewers had to say goodbye to Tony Parra (Julian Silva).

Teresa’s godson was killed in a car explosion which she was also in as Judge Lafayette (David Andrews) wanted revenge for the death of his nephew.

While she ended up in a coma, Tony died from his injuries shortly after the incident had taken place.

So is she going to get her revenge or will Teresa simply accept Tony’s fate and move on?

When will Queen of the South season 5 be on Netflix?

Queen of the South began on USA Network five years ago, with each of the series airing in June.

Season five was confirmed in 2019, with work starting on the new episodes in March 2020.

This was until the cast and crew had to stop because of the pandemic but nearing the end of last year, the show resumed filming.

No official release date has been announced but season five will premiere on USA Network in June 2021.

Sadly for Netflix subscribers, the wait for the next series is going to be a lot longer.

For the first three seasons, once the drama had started in June on USA Network, Queen of the South had been released the following May.

So series one of Queen of the South began in June 2016 and Netflix customers weren’t able to watch until May 2017.

This pattern slightly altered with season four as series four came out on USA Network in June 2019 and viewers across the world were able to watch from June 2020.

Netflix hasn’t announced when Queen of the South season four will be dropped on its platform.

But going by last year, the latest series may not be ready on the streaming service until June 2022, roughly a year after airing on USA Network.

Express.co.uk will update this article once more details have been announced regarding release dates.

Season five is expected to be an interesting series as James Valdez (Peter Gadiot) has made a comeback.

James left at the end of series three to go work with the CIA to try and protect Teresa.

He was missing from the entirety of season four, up until the very last moment when he frantically drove up to the warehouse to speak to Teresa.

With an injury to his chest, James warned her that someone was out to get her.

So who could this new danger be and how will their presence affect season five?

Queen of the South is available to watch on USA Network and Netflix.
