Rachel Riley's face is priceless at 'blowie' answer on Countdown

Rachel Riley’s face was a picture when ‘blowie’ was offered as an answer on Countdown.

No, not that kind of blowie.

Comedian Shappi Khorsandi suggested the word on the Channel 4 show, explaining that it was a name of a fly.

Her six-letter answer – which raised a few smiles – one-upped the other two contestants who only came up with five-letter words like ‘bowel’ and ‘whale’.

‘It’s a fly,’ she insisted. ‘A kind of fly.’

Over on Dictionary Corner, Susie Dent confirmed that a blowie really is a fly and we need to get our minds out of the gutter.

The series returned in July after being paused due to the coronavirus pandemic.

We’re glad they’re back as we get to see them giggle at naughty words every episode.

Rachel recently opened up on what it’s like filming for the show amid the coronavirus and the safety measures that are now in place.

In order for filming to go ahead, the show has scrapped its live audience, with Rachel admitting she is really missing seeing some familiar faces in the crowd.

It’s the first time the studio audience has been axed from the show in 38 years.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain at the end of September, Rachel told hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid that the Countdown audience has become like a ‘family’, but it’s necessary for them to stay away, as most fit within the ‘most vulnerable’ categories.

She said: ‘The main thing for us is that we’ve lost our audience. They probably are in the more vulnerable category… we’re really missing those guys.’
