It’s all very well falling in love with your colleague while working on them – but after spending lockdown together and getting engaged, Sally Carman and Joe Duttine are quite happy not to have a storyline together.
While it was initially suggested that an Abi and Tim affair could be on the cards as the real life man and wife to be don’t have to social distance, Sally was very quick to rule out this concept.
She told Metro.co.uk: ‘Well that would be awful on every level. I would hate to be in the middle of Tim and Sal. Also we don’t want to work together, we see enough of each other at home!’
While they are quite keen to have some space, fans can’t seem to get enough of Abi’s character as Sally is constantly overwhelmed by how defensive and loyal viewers are to her.
She smiled: ‘It’s very interesting and I can only presume it’s because people are fond of her. They really want her to sort herself out, people are quite protective of her and they want her to have luck.
And when she blew Ray’s car up, it was all Yeah go on, Abi! If she is happy and doing the naughty stuff, people like it but when she’s sad, the viewers are really supportive. It’s lovely.’
She added: ‘I also know that the writers understand who she is so I know that whatever they do, they won’t let her become something she isn’t. If she does wrong, she is genuinely upset – she tries to do her best but gets her wrong. So I knew this would be done properly without losing who she is.
‘I like the drama but I really, really love it when Abi is happy and a bit mouthy and causing mischief and putting fingers in pies she shouldn’t be.
‘I really like all of it – I get to do high drama and funny and not every character can do that. But her circumstances and failings give her the scope from one extreme to another.’
