Richard asks journalist if family died ‘instantly’ in Gaza

Good Morning Britain viewers were left fuming and calling for Richard Madeley to be sacked after they found the host’s line of questioning towards journalist Ahmend Alnaouq as “insensitive”.

Ahmend, unfortunately, lost 21 members of his family after his house was bombed in Gaza and appeared on the show to explain what had happened.

Kate Garraway asked if Ahmend could describe the events which unfolded and he explained: “Last Sunday my family was sleeping in their home.

“My father, my two brothers, my sister-in-law, my brother’s children, three sisters and all of their children.

“They were sleeping at 4am and Isreal bombed my house and they were all killed,” leaving Richard to ask: “Instantly?”

Before Ahmend could answer, Kate interjected: “There were only two members of your family there that survived and 14 of those who lost their lives were children.”

Ahmend confirmed: “Yes. At first two children survived, and both of them were severely injured. One of them survived but unfortunately, the other one was taken to the ICU.

“They took her out of the ICU for more urgent cases and then two days after that she succumbed to her wounds and died.”

Without comforting Ahmend, Richard asked: “So what relatives have you lost then? Can you tell us?”

Ahmend repeated: “I lost my father, two brothers, cousin, three sisters and 14 children. 14 of my nieces and nephews.”

Richard went on: “Let’s just go through that slowly, how close were you to your brothers? Were they younger than you or older than you? They have been a big feature of your life.”

Ahmend explained: “We were very close. One was younger and one older. We grew up together, and we lived all of our lives together. I lived in Gaza all my life until I came here to the UK.”

Viewers of the show were left appalled by Richard’s line of questioning and took to their X accounts, formerly known as Twitter, to express their anger.

@PIMC66 asked: “Dear @ITV please get Richard Madeley off @GMB. I cannot believe what he’s asking this poor guy that’s lost 21 members of his family. How f***ing dare he ask him. We’re you close to your butchered brothers and sisters. The man is a disgrace #GMB #RichardMadeley.” (sic)

Kirsty Henshaw fumed: “Richard Madeley and his insensitive and ridiculous questions, yet again. Embarrassing! #GMB.”

@Annie82145914 added: “How close were you to your brothers? Who died?! F**k off Madeley you idiot #gmb.”

@DOPreston penned: “Not Richard Madeley asking a man who has lost 21 members of his family in Gaza ‘How close was you to your family?’ What the heck has that got to do with it? #GMB.”

@COYSJonty quipped: “21 members of his family killed and Richard Madley wants to check if knew them well #GMB.”

@4legsbetter expressed: “Richard Madeley. Please stop. How can you ask these questions – to someone so bereaved???? #gmb.”

Tony Calder wrote: “How close were you to your brothers? What a f***ing stupid question to ask someone who has lost them.” (sic)

Danny Tipple exclaimed: “Richard Madeley either doesn’t listen or just a complete idiot. Had the poor guy say how many died twice. #gmb.” (sic)
