“This is America, it’s a free country,” the sitcom star says.
We figured Roseanne Barr doesn’t give a damn about what people think of her politics, but she took her defense of voting for Donald Trump one expletive further on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" Monday.
"I don’t give a f-ck," she said matter of factly when her support for the president came up.
The late-night host brought up the subject while praising the success of the "Roseanne" reboot, which kicked off with Roseanne Conners being a proud Trump voter, while her sister Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) was clearly on Team Hillary. The series doesn’t really harp on it, tackling different issues each week, but the association between the show and Trump certainly stuck, as Fallon felt compelled to bring it up a month into the new season, which has been a ratings juggernaut.
"It couldn’t be a bigger thing, but then with a big hit comes people that aren’t so happy, as well, if you say you’re a supporter of Donald Trump," Fallon said.
"Oh yeah, people were made about that," Roseanne said before dropping the F-bomb without any hesitation.
"Everybody had to choose for themselves, according to their own conscious, who they thought was the lesser of two evils," she continued. "Everybody chose that, so I’m not gonna put anyone down who didn’t vote like me."
"This is America, it’s a free country," she added. "And you know, when you weigh it all together — actually, I just felt like we needed a whole new thing, bottom to top."
Fallon, although an ardent Trump critic himself, didn’t harp on the subject very long. After he let Roseanne say her piece, he moved on to the comedian talking about getting her big break on the show he’s hosting, back when Johnny Carson ruled the late-night airwaves.
