Sarah Palin blasts Sacha Baron Cohen after he ‘dupes’ her for new show

Sarah Palin has lashed out at Sacha Baron Cohen after the comedian managed to trick her into being interviewed for his new Channel 4 satirical comedy series.

The London-born comedian, 46, has been secretly filming the seven-episode show Who Is America? for a year and it is due to premiere later this month.

On Tuesday, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate revealed she had been duped into a sit-down interview with Cohen, who she claims had "heavily disguised himself as a disabled US veteran".

In a lengthy post shared on Facebook , a furious Palin branded the comedian’s humour "exploitive" and "sick".

She said she eventually stormed out of the interview, and now challenges Cohen and the network behind the show to donate all proceeds to a charity that supports veterans.

"Yup – we were duped. Ya’ got me, Sacha. Feel better now?" she wrote.

"For my interview, my daughter and I were asked to travel across the country where Cohen (I presume) had heavily disguised himself as a disabled US Veteran, fake wheelchair and all.

"Out of respect for what I was led to believe would be a thoughtful discussion with someone who had served in uniform, I sat through a long ‘interview’ full of Hollywoodism’s disrespect and sarcasm – but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out, much to Cohen’s chagrin.

"The disrespect of our US military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse."

"Here is my challenge, shallow Sacha boy: go ahead – air the footage. Experience tells us it will be heavily edited, not pretty, and intended to humiliate.

"The challenge is to Cohen, CBS and Showtime: donate all proceeds to a charitable group that actually respects and supports American Vets. Mock politicians and innocent public personalities all you want, if that lets you sleep at night, but HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country."

Palin also claimed the production team deliberately dropped her and her daughter off at the wrong airport in Washington DC, knowing they would miss their flight back home to Alaska.

She finished: "By the way, my daughter thinks you’re a piece of ****, Sacha. Every honorable American Vet should feel the same."

Palin is thought to have been with her teenage daughter Piper at the time of the interview.

The Going Rogue author isn’t the only political figure to have found themselves being targeted by the comedian.

In a teaser for the programme, Cohen, posing as a journalist, interviews former US vice president Dick Cheney and asks him to autograph a "waterboard kit".

The politician is a known proponent of the controversial torture technique.

Mr Cheney, 77, agreed to sign it and said: "That’s a first. That’s the first time I’ve signed a waterboard kit."

Who Is America? is described as exploring "the diverse individuals, from the infamous to the unknown across the political and cultural spectrum, who populate the unique nation".

The first episode will air in the UK on Channel 4 at 10pm on Monday July 16.
