Sarah Paulson Credits Harvey Weinstein Story for Rosanna Arquette Casting on ‘Ratched’

AceShowbizSarah Paulson was inspired to cast Rosanna Arquette in her new TV drama after the actress took a stand against disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein.

The “Pulp Fiction” star was one of the first high-profile women to accuse the producer of sexual misconduct as exposes about his allegedly predatory behaviour began hitting headlines over a year ago, when actresses like Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino, and Asia Argento all came forward with stories of uncomfortable encounters with Weinstein.

The controversy led to the rise of the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements against inappropriate behaviour and inequality in Hollywood, as stars across the industry pledged to make positive progress for women and minorities, but Arquette has previously insisted little has really changed for her, as she still cannot find an agent to represent her.

Rosanna also claimed Weinstein derailed her career by bad-mouthing her to producers and directors after she refused his advances following an incident in his hotel room in the 1990s.

But Paulson has given her career a big boost after urging her regular collaborator Ryan Murphy to give her a recurring role on her new show “Ratched“.

“The story of Rosanna Arquette is a triumphant one, but it’s also disturbing,” the “American Horror Story” actress writes on Instagram. “She was one of the first women to publicly speak out about Harvey Weinstein. I was stirred by several of her recent interviews where she was quoted as saying she couldn’t find work – or representation – this seems a direct consequence of her bravery.”

“I am producing a new Netflix show, RATCHED, with Ryan Murphy – and we decided this could not stand,” she adds. “Her body of work – from Desperately Seeking Susan to Pulp Fiction and beyond, has always been deeply inspiring to both of us…”

The new series will run on streaming service Netflix.
