The Pogues perform Fairytale of New York in 1992
Ailing Shane MacGowan perked up after a visit from fellow singer-songwriter Imelda May.
The Made To Love It songstress visited the Pogues frontman in hospital as he continues to be treated for encephalitis, which is an uncommon but serious condition in which the brain becomes inflamed and can prove life-threatening.
His wife Victoria Mary Clarke took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share a picture with her 33.3 thousand followers of Imelda smiling fondly as she hugs the star while Shane smiles, clearly pleased to see her.
“Shane is so happy to see @ImeldaOfficial !!! @ShaneMacGowan@poguesofficial,” she wrote. (sic)
Fans were delighted to see the Fairytale of New York singer looking so happy and flooded the comments with well wishes.

Poorly Shane has suffered a number of health complications and is believed to have been admitted to hospital in July.
Around the same time, Shane also reportedly contracted shingles which spread to his eye.
Speaking to The Spectator last year, the singer revealed he was using a “sumptuous” hospital bed and needed daily help from carers due to his mobility issues.
This came after he suffered a nasty fall which resulted in him breaking his pelvis in 2015.
In an interview with Vice at the time he said: “It was a fall and I fell the wrong way. I broke my pelvis, which is the worst thing you can do. I’m lame in one leg, I can’t walk around the room without a crutch.
“I am getting better, but it’s taking a very long time. It’s the longest I’ve ever taken to recover from an injury. And I’ve had a lot of injuries.”
In what has been a tough time for the singer, the 65-year-old was also faced with more bad news earlier this year following the death of his dear friend Sinead O’Connor in July aged 56.
