Transport: Charlie Stayt asks Grant Shapps 'What do you do?'

The Transport Secretary, who appeared on Friday’s instalment of BBC Breakfast, was probed by presenter Charlie Stayt about the rail strikes which took place across the country on Thursday. The debate soon turned heated when Grant Shapps was asked about his involvement with rail staff walking out en masse. Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers union are also set to strike on Saturday. 

Stayt told the politician: “Why are you so – it’s almost as if you are divorcing yourself – you are the Transport Secretary and it is almost as though you are suggesting it almost has not got much to do with you.

“Why are you not more involved in this process?”

Shapps replied: “Why do you say that? I don’t think it’s right at all. I am involved in it every single day and almost every single hour.”

Stayt asked Shapps to give him examples of what he did during Thursday’s strike action, asking: “What did you actually do yesterday?”
